The PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic is a computer-based English language proficiency test that evaluates the listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills of non-native English speakers. The test is widely accepted by educational institutions, governments, and professional organizations around the world.

Here's an overview of the four modules in the PTE Academic:

    Speaking and Writing

Format: The Speaking and Writing module is combined and consists of several tasks.

    • Read Aloud: Test-takers read a short text aloud.

    • Repeat Sentence: Test-takers listen to a sentence and repeat it.

    • Describe Image: A visual prompt is displayed, and test-takers describe the image.

    • Re-Tell Lecture: Test-takers listen to a lecture and retell it in their own words.

    • Answer Short Question: Test-takers respond to a question with a brief answer

Objective: This module evaluates a candidate's ability to understand spoken English in various contexts. Test-takers listen to recordings and answer questions that assess their comprehension skills.

    Reading

Format: The Reading module includes several item types, such as multiple-choice, reorder paragraphs, and fill in the blanks.

Objective: This module assesses reading comprehension skills, including the ability to understand the main ideas, identify details, and interpret information from texts.

    Listening

Format: The Listening module includes various question types, such as multiple-choice, highlight correct summary, and fill in the blanks.

Objective: This module evaluates the candidate's ability to understand spoken English in different accents and contexts, including academic lectures and everyday conversations.

Objective: This module evaluates the candidate's ability to express themselves in written English, analyzing their coherence, cohesion, lexical resource, and grammatical accuracy.

    Writing

Format: The Writing module includes several tasks, such as summarizing written text, writing an essay, and completing a prompt.

Objective: This module assesses the candidate's ability to express themselves in written English, evaluating grammar, vocabulary, and coherence in essay writing.

The PTE Academic is scored on a scale from 10 to 90, with 10-point increments. Each module is scored individually, and the overall score is the sum of the scores from the four modules. The test is known for its quick turnaround time in providing results, usually within 2-3 days. It is used for academic and immigration purposes, similar to other English proficiency tests such as IELTS and TOEFL.
